Savant Young Wiki

Savant Young is an American lightweight fighter currently signed to Bellator. He is the head instructor at The Fight Academy in Pasadena, California. He has fought for a wide variety of promotions such as KOTC, IFL, WEC, Shooto, Affliction and Tachi Palace Fights in weight classes ranging from middleweight to featherweight. Savant began his professional career in 1998 and has fought on and off since. In that time, he has notable wins over Kendall Grove and Takeshi Inoue.

Young began his career in 1998 fighting on regional California shows. In his first two years of competition, he would earn a record of 3-2 including a five second knockout loss to Jason Von Flue. He would take a break from MMA for a few years and take a single fight in 2002. Savant would win the first decision of his career.

Savant would decide that he wanted to dedicate himself to MMA full time in 2005. His first fight back was against future "The Ultimate Fighter 3" winner, Kendall Grove. The fight was supposed to be middleweight, but Grove missed weight and it became a 192 pound catch weight bout, Savant's heaviest fight ever. He would choke Grove unconscious two minutes into the fight. Despite his solid restart, he would lose his next three fights to John Alessio, Chris Lytle and Gabe Ruediger.

After picking up another win, Young joined the IFL in 2007. He was a part of he Tokyo Sabres in th IFL and would leave with a 2-2 record. He was given a fight against the highly favored Takeshi Inoue at a Shooto event in 2008 and was able to pull off a huge upset victory when he won by decision. This win got him noticed and he was next signed by the Afliction promotion. He took on future UFC title contender, Mark Hominick but lost by armbar in the second round.

Savant again took a hiatus from MMA for three years. He returned in 2011 at Tachi Palace Fights and has since compiled a record of 1-1 with his loss coming to former UFC fighter, Rob Emerson. He was signed to Bellator in late 2012 and made his debut against Michael Guymon at Bellator 85. Young won the fight via 2nd round knockout.
