If Hooper wins, I see more chances of him winning in the gnp than submission.

All fights start on the feet so I'm leaning Slava, but Hooper definitely has a chance. Slava is great at getting back to his feet, but I noticed he kind of rushes it and leaves an opportunity for his neck to be grabbed. Hooper isn't the best wrestler he's faced, but he's by far got more dangerous submissions than any of his previous opponents. All it takes is one mistake for Hooper to cash in on the upset

I see Slava blitz Hooper early: Steve Garcia makes Chase looks easy (scores 3 knockdowns and waved him in 92 seconds). Slava has shown little progress in grappling (getting up quickly and surviving that second round against Nazim), while Chase striking defense remains just as poor, his fight against Aguirre was a sloppyfest on feet and against Leavitt it was mostly grappling . Slava is really sharp with the body shots and Hooper's wrestling is poor, if Slava doesn't make mistakes that lead him to be in a compromising position on the ground he should get the KO/TKO in the first round.

@DevinM34
With you 100%, this one is a tossup. Slava is so bad on the ground that Hooper could snatch a sub pretty quick or keep him trapped for ground and pound. But Hooper has bad striking defense, if he can't get the fight down with a trip or something this could look like the Steve Garcia fight real quick. Hooper is tough but that only helps for so long.
I always root for Chase so hopefully he can get the takedown quickly! But if I had to bet I'd probably take Slava

The physicality difference between Slava and Hooper is considerable. Slava will shuck Hooper off and smack him about, nice combos with meaty body shots. Hooper slumps.

I'm not seeing it guys. Hooper has been in the UFC for 4.5 years and his standup has not improved hardly at all in that time. Slava is by far the most dangerous opponent he's faced, a truly elite level striker.
I don't think it's a wrap if it goes to the ground. It's very dangerous for Slava there to be sure but Hooper hasn't always been able to find the finish or he's found a couple late in the 3rd after the opponent gassed. Hooper also tend to gas himself if a fight goes late.
He would have to finish Slava early in my opinion to get it done and every minute that Slava can be back on his feet even if it's just every round start is insanely dangerous for Hooper.

If fights and rounds started on the ground I might flip my opinion but I just think Slava is gonna merc him quickly. Might even be worth looking at meme props such as finish in under 0.5.

Buckley vs. Ruziboev
Joaquin Buckley, DEC
This is one of several fights on this card where if my pick is wrong, it's gonna be WAY wrong. Ruziboev has some great tools and could catch Buckley, it wouldn't shock me at all. I just can't pick it because aside from starching Bruno Ferreira, Ruziboev hasn't beaten anyone nearly as good as Buckley. His losses are mostly to good fighters, but he hasn't beaten any of them so... I gotta go with Buckley. But If I'm wrong and Ruziboev can make it work against a proven guy, that's two good wins in the UFC for him.

Cortes-Acosta vs. Despaigne
Robelis Despaigne, TKO, R1
Unless Robelis has massively overrated skills, he should have this. It's a boxer vs a full contact Taekwondo fighter. But if he does have a hole to exploit, Waldo isn't very good at much but he is tough and athletic enough to make this a fight.

Hadley vs. Johnson
Charles Johnson, DEC
Picking Johnson 's fights is always hard 😆

@gliese58i
To Slava's credit he hasn't been subbed in the ufc, and Chase isn't a good wrestler, but he's the best pure sub artist Slava has faced. But I agree with you overall, the fight starts on the feet and Chase is a guy that Slava can unload power shots on. And he doesn't have the takedowns that Diakese or Davis do.

Thoughts from weigh ins:

Despaigne is an enormous human being that made Acosta look small.
Ruziboev is insanely tall.
Ricci is still the posterwoman for an 'Amazonian' physique.

I got Slava at -150 against Maheshate which I thought was a good price at the time. -125 against Chase Hooper is a steal.

I think people are overrating hoopers ability to get the fight down to the ground. He has a 22% takedown accuracy and that’s against cans, featherweights, and fellow grapplers. He was also getting easily outmuscled by dudes like Peter Barrett and Steven Petersen, and that was at 145.  He hasn’t been exposed at this new weight class yet but fighting human punching bag Nick fiore and leavitt (perfect style matchup for hooper and he STILL nearly got ko’ed) haven’t sold me on his abilities.

There is only 1 reason the UFC made the Hooper/Slava fight

What reason do you dullards think that is?

Prediction Comments

Predictions: 2 of 12 Winners, 1 Perfect, 140 Points   |   Tied for 5049th

Lewis vs. Nascimento
Derrick Lewis, TKO, R1
Just get the KO homie please don't make me sad.

Buckley vs. Ruziboev
Nursulton Ruziboev, TKO, R3
His range will be too much for Buckley just like Holland was for Buckley. 6'5" and made weight pretty easily it seems. He will use those straight punches down the pipe to deal damage the whole fight and I expect a KO in the end of the fight but could see a decision.

Menifield vs. Ulberg
Alonzo Menifield, TKO, R2
Menifield has all the tools. He can wrestle well, he has powerful hands, and he has pretty decent defense.

Ferreira vs. Rębecki
Mateusz Rębecki, DEC
Boring fight lots of clinch and slow wrestling coming.

Caceres vs. Woodson
Alex Caceres, SUB, R1
Just a fan of Caceres and I hope he gets Woodson out of there. I can't stand Woodson's build he looks like a bug.

Cortes-Acosta vs. Despaigne
Robelis Despaigne, TKO, R2
Waldo will not be overly aggressive in round 1, which is what all of Robelis previous opponents have done. I still think Robelis' power will get Waldo out of there in the second.

Hooper vs. Borshchev
Viacheslav Borshchev, TKO, R3
Borshchev will be laying the damage on alllll fight. Hooper will not be able to get it to the ground like he wants to and will get pieced up all fight, finishing the fight in the third.

McKinney vs. Ribovics
Terrance McKinney, SUB, R2
I know. Doesn't make sense to take McKinney in round 2. However, I feel they'll get through the first, Esteban will come out way too aggressive in the second round and McKinney has for sure been working on his cardio. I think Esteban will get his back taken in the second and get submitted.

Ricci vs. Torres
Tecia Torres, DEC
Tabatha Ricci came out practically in a bikini, she banking on the onlyfans to work if UFC doesn't lol. Tecia Pennington will be coming different with different motivations than before. Tecia by decision.

Waters vs. Goff
Billy Goff, TKO, R1
Billy Goff with the quick KO, good power for his size.

Hadley vs. Johnson
Jake Hadley, TKO, R2
Hadley's weight cut looked insane but it's pretty blatant he's roided up in my opinion. Hadley KO rd 2.

Aldrich vs. Hardy
Veronica Hardy, DEC
JJ focuses a lot on her counter strikes. It's tough to pick counters against someone who throws so much volume and is aggressive like Hardy since JJ will be constantly pressured. Takedowns + clinch will come with the pressure and Hardy will win a decision.
